I believe that true horsemanship is about connection, not coercion. It’s about nurturing the relationship you have with your horse so it becomes a source of joy, growth, and mutual healing.
The Horsekinship Story: A New Kind of Horsemanship
I’m Colleen, and I’ve spent over 15 years in the horse industry. I’ve seen it all—from the harsh, “one-size-fits-all” methods to the broken relationships between horses and riders. For years, I followed what I was told: “This is how it’s always been done.” But deep inside, I knew something wasn’t right.
Then, one day, I heard words from a high-end trainer that changed everything: “Clients are like mushrooms. They do best when you keep them in the dark.”
This was the breaking point for me. I knew I had to do things differently—not just for myself, but for the horses and riders who were tired of feeling like they didn’t belong, who were seeking something more than what they were being offered.
That’s how Horsekinship was born—a space for horse owners who are tired of the status quo and want a better, more authentic way to connect with their horses. I’ve made it my mission to help riders create lasting, meaningful relationships with their horses, founded on mutual respect, gentle leadership, and a shared journey of discovery.
“Colleen isn't simply a horse trainer, she's an exceptional and divinely called people and horse healer.”
— Emmy C.
Is Horsekinship Right for You?
I work with people who are passionate about their horses. I work with those who are curious, insatiably driven, and heart-centered. You might be someone who:
Spends time researching equine health, behavior, and training methods.
Believes that your horse’s well-being comes before performance or winning ribbons.
Is ready to move beyond traditional methods of training and explore gentle, consensual horsemanship.
Has a burning desire to deepen your relationship with your horse and find joy in the journey.
Feels like you don’t quite fit into the typical “horse world” because you’re always asking questions and seeking more.
If this resonates with you, then you’re in the right place. In Horsekinship, I don’t just train horses—I work with horse owners to build relationships that are grounded in trust, curiosity, and playfulness.
Break free from the constraints of traditional methods and discover a partnership that honors both you and your horse's unique needs.
What You’ll Experience with Horsekinship
When you work with me, it’s not just about learning “how to train” your horse. It’s about learning how to connect with them in a way that’s deeply fulfilling for both of you. I’m here to guide you through:
Intuitive Training: This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we will find what your horse needs, not what “everyone else is doing.”
Deep Connection: You’ll experience what it means to listen to your horse and understand their needs, communicating from a place of mutual respect and coherence.
Healing for Both You and Your Horse: I focus on healing the relationship, which ultimately helps both you and your horse feel safe, happy, and comfortable.
Sustainable Results: Forget about quick fixes that create downstream problems. Together, we’ll lay a solid foundation that allows for long-term success without compromising your horse’s emotional and physical well-being.
A Playful Spirit: I take horsemanship seriously, but I also believe that the process should be joyful and fun. Rediscover the joy of riding and the playful connection that can exist between horse and rider.
Colleen’s Approach: Gentle, Heart-Centered, and Playful
What makes Horsekinship different from other training methods? I approach training with compassion and patience. I don’t rely on harsh methods or cookie-cutter solutions. I don’t just train horses—I train people to become the partners their horses need.
I believe in working at a pace that feels right for both you and your horse. Some sessions, I’ll guide you through the training with hands-on assistance. Other times, you’ll have the chance to work directly with your horse while I observe and offer guidance in real-time. Every moment is an opportunity to build a deeper, more meaningful relationship.
Why Horsekinship?
If you’re tired of traditional methods that rely on fear, force, and control, then Horsekinship is for you.
I believe in empowering you to trust your instincts and connect with your horse on a deeper level. Here, it’s not about chasing perfection—it’s about learning how to feel your way through each moment, ensuring both you and your horse are in a space of flow and connection.
Horsekinship is for the curious, the questioning, the healers—those who believe that horsemanship should be about more than just “getting it right.” It’s about finding the joy and magic that comes when you’re truly in sync with your horse.

The Horsekinship Story
At the heart of Horsekinship is a story that begins with one simple belief: horsemanship should never be about force, fear, or domination. It should be about connection, respect, and mutual understanding. The story of Horsekinship isn’t just the story of a business—it’s the story of a journey of discovery, healing, and transformation for both horses and their riders.
It all began when Colleen, the creatrix of Horsekinship, found herself at a crossroads in the traditional horse industry—a place where rules, ego, and performance often overshadowed the well-being of the horses themselves. With over 15 years of experience, Colleen had seen it all: the pressure to win at all costs, the harsh methods disguised as “training,” and the unspeakable lengths people would go to in order to make a horse conform. But deep inside, Colleen felt that something was missing.
It was a pivotal moment—one that forever shifted her path. While working at a highly competitive barn, she had a conversation with a top trainer, who, in passing, said something that would change the course of her career forever: “Clients are like mushrooms. They do best when you keep them in the dark.” The words hit Colleen like a ton of bricks. She could no longer ignore the dissonance between what she believed to be true and what the industry insisted was “the way things are done.”
From that moment on, Colleen made a vow to break away from conventional, coercive practices and create a space where both horses and riders could thrive in partnership—where horses were seen as sentient beings with their own voices, and where the human side of the equation wasn’t just about getting things “right,” but about deep connection and mutual respect.
Horsekinship was born from this vision.
Horsekinship isn’t just another training program. It’s a sanctuary for horse owners who refuse to accept the status quo, who aren’t interested in “quick fixes” or blind obedience. It’s a place for those who are tired of being told that the only way to succeed is by applying pressure, using fear, and forcing compliance. Instead, Horsekinship encourages an entirely new way of thinking—one that is grounded in gentleness, curiosity, and joy. We believe that true horsemanship is about building trust, creating safety, and fostering a relationship that is founded on mutual love and respect.
At Horsekinship, Colleen works closely with clients to co-create training plans that are deeply rooted in the idea of consensual horsemanship. Each session is an invitation to explore, experiment, and, most importantly, connect. We don’t believe in "one-size-fits-all" solutions. Instead, we meet each horse and rider where they are, offering personalized guidance to help them find their unique path to partnership.
It’s not about achieving ribbons or trophies (though those can be wonderful accomplishments). It’s about finding peace and flow in your relationship with your horse, being able to trust your instincts, and knowing that you and your horse are truly in sync. At the heart of this journey is a playful spirit—because horsemanship is not just hard work; it’s about joy, discovery, and healing. It's about giving yourself and your horse the permission to be imperfect and to learn together, day by day.
Through Horsekinship, Colleen offers more than just training. She offers a transformative experience—an opportunity to move away from the hustle and grind of conventional horsemanship and into a space where the relationship you have with your horse becomes your greatest reward. It’s about tapping into the wisdom of the horse—the way they communicate, the way they feel, and the way they can help us heal. It’s about creating sustainable solutions that lead to long-term success, not just for your horse, but for you as the rider.
Horsekinship stands apart because it’s not about speed or shortcuts. It’s about doing things slowly, intentionally, and sustainably. We don’t rush to fix the “surface problems”—we take the time to truly understand the root causes and shift them from the inside out. The result? Horses that are happier, healthier, and more comfortable, and riders who feel empowered, confident, and aligned with their horse’s needs.
In this community, we celebrate every step of the journey—the wins, the losses, and everything in between. Because we believe that every moment spent in partnership with your horse is an opportunity for both of you to grow, to learn, and to heal together.
If you're ready to embrace a new way of being with your horse—one that honors your connection and fosters a deep, respectful relationship—then Horsekinship is for you.
Join us, and let’s create a world of horsemanship that is gentle, connected, and profoundly fulfilling—for both you and your horse.
